“When I decided to leave St Helens, I had to look at which was the best place to move to, and Huddersfield has a lot of things going for them, and I just had a feeling inside me that it was the right move to make.” “If we all pull together, with the talent that we have got in the side, there is no reason why we are not capable of winning something. I hope that we can bring some silverware to the club over the next few years.” Living in Dewsbury, Gilmour has been accustomed to travelling across the Pennines every day to St Helens and now his travelling time has significantly reduced he feels it will be beneficial to himself, as well as the Giants. “Little things like not having to travel for three hours to training and having more time at home to recuperate with muscle tiredness after training is good for me.” “The preparation this year has been a lot better and stronger than in previous years. As much as we love rugby, it is nice to get away from time to time and spend time with the family. There is nothing better than that and the reduced journey time has certainly helped.” ‘Gilly’ was also happy with his involvement in last week’s pre-season friendly victory over Cas and thinks the side are on course for another successful season. “I was very comfortable in the game because I am back on the left edge which is my preferred position. I didn’t play there much last season but I am looking to get more involved as the year goes on. “It has been a tough pre-season but everyone is in great shape. We have some very skilful players and Mark Andrews the conditioner has helped us out in the gym. Hopefully, the work we have done will lead to good performances in the league.” With the season opener coming against his old club just days away, Gilmour is anticipating a tough encounter. “It is a local derby and both teams will be looking for the win and the signings they have made will mean they are a better side than last season. It will be an important two points for whoever wins to get them off the mark.” The Giants take on the Bradford Bulls this Friday 5th February at the Galpharm Stadium in their opening game of engage Super League XV. |
